Getting started with Odyssey
Where and how do I start playing Odyssey?
After you've signed up through your school district, bookmark the My Training page (see the link at the top of the page or visit leadtheodyssey.com/library) and start there to login and start playing Odyssey. Scroll down and click the Open button next to Odyssey Hero 1, or select Hero 2 or 3 if you have more than one child playing.
Go to Before You Start Your Odyssey > Welcome Heroes and Guides! for an overview of the program and instructions on how to play. You'll need to complete the Safety Check for Guides before you can start playing with your Hero.
Once you pass the Safety Check, you and your Hero can work on any mod you like. If you scroll down on the main Odyssey page, you can see all the different mods with a brief description of what they are. For example, the first couple mods you see are Kindness Keeper and Feeling Decoder. You can start with one of those or any of the other mods.
When you click on a mod, you'll be taken to the Basecamp level. Once you complete the Basecamp level, it takes you to Level 1. Once you complete Level 1, you can move on to Level 2. And so on and so forth.
You don't have to complete all levels in a mod to start another mod. For example you can do a few levels of Kindness Keeper, then do a few levels of Walkie Talkie, then go back to Kindness Keeper or start a different mod.
Good luck on your journey!
Should we play Odyssey with a phone, tablet, or computer?
The choice is up to you! Odyssey works on a mobile phone, tablet, or computer, so feel free to use whatever is easiest for you.
How do I switch back and forth between accounts for different kids (Hero 1, Hero 2, Hero 3)?
Each of the children you signed up for Odyssey has their progress tracked under their own Hero account. To switch between Heroes, go to the My Training link at the top of the web page (if you have any trouble, you can go to leadtheodyssey.com/library). On that page you should see different Odyssey Hero 1 and Odyssey Hero 2 under My Training Programs. If you have a Hero 3 signed up, you should see it on that page too.
Can I play Odyssey with more than 3 kids?
At this time, there is no option to sign up 4 or more kids under the same parent account. If you have more than 3 elementary school kids, there are a couple things you can do to make sure everyone gets a chance to play:
Use a different email address to create a separate Odyssey account, then enroll up to 3 additional children under that email address.
Have your other kids play Odyssey along with your Heroes that have an account. This won't track their progress for their school, but they still get the benefit and fun of playing Odyssey!
I keep getting stuck when Levels are locked
When in doubt, scroll up! When you try to access a locked level and it takes you to the level you need to complete, sometimes it takes you to the bottom of the activity. Scroll up to see the questions.
If this doesn't solve your problem, send an email to [email protected] with a description of your problem and what you need help with.
What should I do if my child is too young to read or type on their own?
While most educational apps are designed for kids to play alone, Odyssey is designed for parents and kids to play together. Instead of being a standard lesson format, Odyssey is full of conversation-starters to prompt meaningful interactions between parents and children.
As your Hero's Guide, you should feel empowered to help little ones read the prompts in the app and translate it to their vocab level, using words or examples that make it truly meaningful for them. While the prompts are the same for lower vs upper elementary students, you get to personalize it so it's just right for your Hero.
