Social-emotional learning (SEL) starts at home, yet even the best classroom-based programs struggle to tap into this valuable resource. Odyssey recognizes that parents are the biggest influencers on children, so we complement your school’s efforts by expanding SEL to the family setting, making it fun and easy for parents to play a leading role in growing their child's emotional intelligence (EQ).
We understand budgets are stretched pancake-thin, so Odyssey is available at no cost to schools and students' families. This is made possible through the support of business sponsors who share our mission to empower as many kids as possible with EQ skills. We strive to tear down socio-economic barriers and bring SEL to families who need it most.
Odyssey guides families through fun EQ-building activities designed for parents and children to do together, deepening relationships by opening up new dialogue within the family. All activities can be done in 5 minutes or less from a phone, tablet or computer. Perfect for busy families on the go!
Families complete EQ activities to move on to the next level, and earn points for each activity completed. Each point earned is a chance to win prizes. Teachers get a piece of the action by earning 10% of their classroom points so they can earn prizes too!
Odyssey delivers exciting prize drawing events to get students pumped up about EQ. We work closely with your administration or parent organization to make these just the right size needed to motivate students while fitting into your school’s schedule.
To build a skyscraper, construction workers don’t need to be an engineer or architect. They just need expert guidance and a blueprint to follow. In the same way, we don’t need parents to buy into the theoretical underpinnings of SEL, we just need them to do it. Odyssey takes proven methods used by psychologists today and packages them up in a step-by-step guide. We remove the guesswork and give parents the manual to spur learning through acting, practicing, and experiencing EQ in real time. We make background info available for parents who are hungry for it, but the best way to drive SEL in most families is to actively practice foundational EQ skills.
Whether you already have a robust SEL program in place or you’re looking to implement your first initiative, Odyssey adds value by closing the loop between classroom-based learning and the home. Unlike most SEL programs, Odyssey’s unique approach doesn’t require training your teachers or staff. We give you all the tools necessary to activate parents with engaging communication templates and schedules that will maximize impact.

All you need to do is promote Odyssey to your students’ families. You designate someone as the Odyssey Champion at your school - this can be a PTA officer, school psychologist, teacher, or someone from the office. We’ll work closely with your Champion and supply a Champion Kit to make it as easy as possible.
The Champion Kit comes with all kinds of goodies like:
Odyssey staff will be by your side throughout the year to make it as simple and fun as possible!
The Drawing Events are meant to publicly celebrate the kids for practicing EQ and to motivate them to keep up the practice! We’ll help you plan the Drawing Events for your school. We recommend you incorporate them into your regularly scheduled school-wide assemblies, and just take a few extra minutes to conduct the drawing and award prizes. Or feel free to make them a special event if that works better for you.
Kids earn points for playing Odyssey, and each point is a chance to win in the prize drawing. Teachers earn 10% of their classroom points, and there is a special prize drawn just for them. Hard work should never go unrewarded, so we make sure there are prizes for the kids who worked hardest and earned the most points. Check out our Drawing Event Schedule to see which students get rewarded and when.
Social-emotional learning (SEL) initiatives are typically classroom-based, and Odyssey is the only program that activates the home. Engaging parents is critical since they are the biggest influencers on children’s SEL. Whether you already have a robust SEL program in place or you’re looking to implement your first initiative, Odyssey adds value by closing the loop between classroom-based learning and the home.
Odyssey takes user privacy very seriously. We will never sell or lease personally identifiable data to any third parties. Additionally, Odyssey complies with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), Student Online Personal Information Protection Act (SOPIPA), California Assembly Bill 1584, and all other student privacy guidelines.
Unlike other educational tech products, Odyssey is meant for parents and data is not part of the education record. Parents are in full control of the process and their child’s use of the program.
You play the critical role of jump starting the process until it becomes self-sustaining. Schools and teachers promote Odyssey, empowering parents to take the first step and start the program. Then the points, prizes and gentle reminders from teachers incentivize families to push forward. Eventually all that EQ practice will pay off when parents experience a deeper relationship with their children, creating positive reinforcement that generates more skill-building practice. Seeing that transition from extrinsic to intrinsic motivation is the really exciting part, where your school is integral to instilling life-changing emotional habits in your students.
You probably chose a career in education because you want to make a difference. You want to instill life-changing habits in the next generation that will ultimately change the fabric of society for the better. We feel the same way at Odyssey, and we believe that practicing EQ makes us better parents, better children, better students, better employees, and better citizens. We invite you to join our mission in creating a kinder, joyful world.
